Sarcoma Foundation of America Supports 2012 Career Development Award

This year marks a milestone for the relationship between the Conquer Cancer Foundation and the Sarcoma Foundation of America (SFA), as the SFA is supporting its first-ever Career Development Award (CDA) in Sarcoma Research.

SFA has been supporting the Conquer Cancer Foundation since 2005. In previous years, SFA supported five Young Investigator Awards (YIAs) and two Advanced Clinical Research Awards (ACRAs) in sarcoma. Along with this year’s CDA, SFA is continuing its YIA support in 2012.

SFA advocates for increased research to find new and better therapies for the treatment of sarcoma. The organization raises money to privately fund grants for sarcoma researchers and conducts education and advocacy efforts on behalf of patients with sarcoma.

“Unraveling the basis of sarcoma pathology often translates into a greater understanding of more prevalent, complex cancers,” said SFA President Mark Thornton, MD, PhD. “We are honored to partner with the Conquer Cancer Foundation to foster the career development of an individual who will make a meaningful contribution to this understanding.”

The Conquer Cancer Foundation is delighted that its relationship with SFA not only will continue but is also strengthened. Undoubtedly, SFA’s support will further the Conquer Cancer Foundation’s vision of achieving a world free from the fear of cancer.
